Tests and more tests
Because of my maternal age, it was suggested to have preimplantation genetic screening and other precautionary tests done. This is to make sure when it is time, the doctor can transfer the embryos with the correct number of chromosomes. These embryos are more likely to implant and are less likely to miscarry. A much better chance for a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby. This is one of the reasons that make IVF so expensive. I would much rather prepare the best we can for a better outcome.
The first appointment for my blood testing started a little upsetting. I went in for a “day 3” ovarian reserve blood test. I filled out some insurance paperwork and waited for my turn. I went in with the very pleasant woman who would be drawing my blood. We chatted a bit, finished and I went to go pay. While I was paying I asked the girls at the desk what my next step was going to be. (During our consultation with the doctor he assured me the staff would always know what I would need to do next). On this day they didn’t know what was next, they couldn’t find my chart? I freaked out a little bit because this isn’t like a dentist appointment or general check up! We are trusting them with our future!! So… I paid, calmly walked out the door and was getting ready to call Jay to vent. Luckily, I received a text message that preoccupied me for a minute or two and then my cell phone rang. It was the doctors office. They found my chart and asked if I was still close by. I needed to have more blood drawn. I let them know I was still in the parking lot and would be right back in. They apologized to me and let me know about the genetic testing I needed to have done and what appointments Jay needed to still do. I set them up and waited to have more blood drawn. The stress went away.
Jay only has a couple of appointments he needs to do. I will have the most to go through. He has to have blood work and a semen analysis to make sure his boys are good! 😜 (Sorry Moms! Lol) Next week he will be done for a while. Until they take my eggs out and we turn them into embryos 🥚😃
The girls at the office said we should have the test results back within 2 weeks. I can’t wait to see what the results will be. I hope everything is good and we can proceed to the next step. Which will be an exam, an ultra sound and a hysterosalpingogram. The hyster…gram is to check the condition of my uterus and my fallopian tubes to make sure there are no tubal diseases and the uterus will be in good condition for implantation. It is a fairly quick procedure to do and it is painless. The doctor will be able to discuss the results with me right after or even during the procedure.
One more step closer……
